Division 6 Hurling League Champions!

There were scenes of celebration for the hurlers of Blackhall Gaels last Friday evening as they claimed the JLD Access Ltd. Division 6 League title with a hard fought victory over a formidable Kilmessan side in Kiltale.

It was a landmark occasion for the club, with Blackhall Gaels appearing in their first adult hurling final since 2013. It was fitting that this recently established team, built through the commitment of players and management over the past three seasons, brought home the silverware.

Playing against a stiff breeze in the opening half, Blackhall kept Kilmessan at arm's length with scores from Mark Mullally, Robbie McGuinness, Paddy O'Loughlin and Karl Casserly. In front of a large crowd in Kiltale, supporters were treated to an entertaining contest, with the fast pitch and fine summer evening helping to produce a lively game. Despite the good conditions, scores were hard earned and Blackhall took a 0-6 to 0-4 lead into the break.

Blackhall created some daylight between the sides early in the second half when Mullally found the back of the net. At the other end, Kilmessan were awarded a penalty, but David Farrell produced a superb save to keep them at bay.

Holding a seven point advantage entering the closing stages, Blackhall had to withstand a determined Kilmessan fightback that included their only goal of the game. A huge defensive effort from the Blackhall backs ensured the blue wave was kept at bay, and after a tremendous team performance, Blackhall held on for a deserved 1-13 to 1-09 victory.

Following the final whistle, Blackhall captain Sean Rattigan accepted the Division 6 League Cup on behalf of the team from Meath GAA Hurling Development Chairperson, John Brennan.

Congratulations to the players, management and everyone who has contributed to this team's journey over the past three seasons. This league title is a reward for the dedication, perseverance and belief shown throughout the campaign, and a proud moment for Blackhall Gaels.
