Our Yellow Team lined out for the 2nd time last weekend for their Premier 3 Final against a tough Oldcastle team.
Blackhall won the toss and Captain Thomas Hestor decided to play with the wind in the first half.
We got off to a good start with a 2 pointer from Oisin Burke and a great individual goal from George Gaskin who broke through 2 tackles to score. Oldcastle slowly grew into the game and replied with 1-01 of their own. The game ebb and flowed for the rest of the 1st half with little separating the side.
Full forwards Joe Moriarty, George Gaskin and Riley Kirwan kept the Oldcastle defense on their toes and working the ball back out to the half forwards, resulting in a point from Archie Sullivan and another 2 pointer from Jamie Larkin.
Against the wind in the 2nd half, defensive and patient play was the plan of action. Trojan work from the half backs of Sean O'Brien, Harry Snee, Thomas Hestor, Ted Cosgrove, Liam Farrelly and Archie Sullivan meant we kept driving forward early in the 2nd half, linking up with the Midfield partnership of Robbie Argue and Oisin Burke who covered every blade of grass throughout the 60mins.
Free's from George Gaskin and Oisin Burke kept the scoreboard ticking over but Oldcastle hit their purple patch and scored 4 unanswered points to reduce Blackhalls lead to a single point. Oldcastle were really driving forward with 10mins to go but with some Mick Lyons/Darren Fay like defending from Joshua Byrne, Sean O'Leary and Louis O'Neill, they were unable to take the lead.
This defending inspired the lads up front and 2 crucial left and right footed points from Joseph Traynor pushed the lead out to 4 points. With our tails up and driving for home, we finished with a brilliantly taken goal from Conor Brady to seal our victory.
Brilliant celebrations on the pitch for players, coaches and all the families made it a day to remember.
Super work boys, you were fantastic ๐๐
