Our camogie women have had many a battle in the last twelve months but few have compared to when they meet Trim on the pitch. Having come out the wrong side of the last three encounters (including last year's semifinal) Blackhall had everything to prove on Saturday, 11 October.
The game started at a blistering pace with scores for both sides keeping tensions high and pressure building. A superb save on the line from Grace and a goal down the other end kept Blackhall in front for most of the opening half. However, a goal just before half time saw Blackhall trailing by 2 and facing a daunting second half.
Never ones to lie down, Blackhall started the second half with not one but two almighty goals from Brenda to set the tone. Hard work and intense defending kept Trim out of the danger zone but they fought just as hard to keep themselves in the game. A long range free from Sarah dropped onto the hurl of Aileen who batted to Brenda and the result is the picture above! Blackhall just began to breathe when Trim struck again with a disastrous goal bringing the game back to 4 points, and Trim's tails were up. Thankfully with the masterful work of Kate and Ann, as well as the Trojan work of Mia, Maeve and the two Catherines, Blackhall held on to ensure the win.
The final whistle went (after nearly 10mins additional time) and the scenes were comparable to those in Pair Tailteann later in the day. Blackhall Gaels are back in touching distance of the Kay Troy cup, and will face Navan O'Mahonys in two weeks time.
A special thanks to all our supporters and club members who attended yesterday's game, and a massive thank you to Jimmy Burke who not only umpired yesterday, he had come directly from stewarding at the u10 blitz in Batterstown. We're blessed to have people with such community spirit! Hopefully we'll see the same if not more support in two weeks time! 💙💛
