The Blackhall Ladies travelled to Summerhill on Saturday for what proved to be a tough encounter for the first round of the championship. Blackhall opened the scoring with the first point of match but Summerhill proved to be a strong opposition. Both teams demonstrated their passion towards the game keeping the crowd at the edge of their seats. Blackhall never backed down with impressive play in the forward line. Blackhall began to trail in the first half but things started to look up when Blackhall were awarded a penalty. Jane Dolan stepped up to the challenge and scored an incredible goal into the left corner leaving no chance of a save from the Summerhill goalie. The game took a turn just minutes from half time when Blackhall captain Kate Murphy was sin binned for a challenge on a Summerhill player.

Unfortunately Summerhill began to dominate the second half with two goals, one after another. Their strong full forward line and fast mid field proved difficult for the Blackhall defence. Players such as Suzanne Kelly and Jane Dolan found themselves offering support to the backs. The Blackhall defence was helped by Niamh Keane with her incredible speed and determination to never give up. Niamh stuck to her player and was there to offer support play to a number of her team mates. Again just before full time, the Blackhall ladies showed their determination to make this their first win of the championship with two goals in the back of Summerhill’s net. The first goal came from Sabrina Kelly with a superb lob of the ball over the keeper’s head that was soon followed by a goal that shot past their defence by Linda Delany. The referee then blew the final whistle to a disheartened Blackhall.

The final score Blackhall Gaels 4-05, Summerhill 3-16
